Know what you are looking for -

When I say 'know what you are looking for' I mean that you need to know the Brand of laptop and the manufacturers part number for the part that you are looking for.  I would also help to know exactly what the part looks like so that when you are talking to various companies looking for your laptop parts you can forward a picture or good description of the part you need.

Where do I get the Part Number?

First you need to dismantle your laptop and remove the part that you need.  Examine the part closely.  In most cases the part number is printed on the part.  Compaq is good for that their part numbers are called spare part numbers.  IBM uses FRU part numbers and Dell tends to change the part numbers on a regular basis.  However they do not have any format they follow on a regular basis.  Your on your own with Dell Laptops.

Where can I find the parts?

A good place to start is use Google and search on your part number.  Another good source is to do a search on froogle as well.  Failing that you can call the original manufacturer and find out the cost.  Which is usually more that you really want to pay. 

You can also call Bob Johnson's Computer Stuff  They always have laptop parts.  If it isn't listed on their website just give them a call they may have it anyway.
