Laptop ManualsWhen purchasing a laptop that is used or off-lease means that usually you do not receive the manual for the unit. There are many places where you can purchase a manual like here. However I would question the usefulness of such a manual. What do Users Laptop manuals include? In general, the users guide has the very basic information regarding the laptop. For Example: How to turn the laptop on How to clean the screen How to store your laptop How to charge the battery How to use the CDROM Drive Where to plug your phone cord.
Now if you are a novice with absolutely no computer experience at all then perhaps this type of manual would be useful to you. But for the other 99.9% of the population that purchases laptops these manuals are a nice colorful addition to our bookcases and in some cases the land fill. You can check out this website for more detailed Laptop Manual information. A cheaper Alternative to the paper manual. Most all of the major manufacturers offer their user manuals either as a downloadable file or as a html website. Dell, IBM, Compaq, HP, Gateway all offer downloadable manuals for their laptops. I found them to be just copies of the paper version. Hey save a tree and download the free manual in adobe format or html format. After you review it at least you can delete it. I would feel bad killing a tree for useless information. What you don't get in a user manual. What you don't get in a users manual is any operating system advice or information. The hardware manufacturer leaves that up to Microsoft (if you are using windows) to deal with. If you have not already checked out www.microsoft.com then do it now and you will find a tremendous amount of information that really amounts to nothing that the normal user can figure out. In addition you do not get any technical information. Like How-to remove the system board and repair your laptop. Or what do those IBM error codes refer to? The Technical manuals are not usually included with new laptops. I believe that they do not include them because they feel that the normal computer buyer is not intelligent enough to even begin reading them. |
